A former member of the reserve forces, who is alleged to be a white man, was sentenced to four years in prison after he stormed the US Capitol.

Timothy Hale-Cusanelli, 32, is among 900 people accused of involvement in the violence.

He was sentenced yesterday after being found guilty of five counts of assaulting Congress on January 6 2021 and one count of obstructing official proceedings.

The former Navy contractor was on active duty with the military when he joined the raid and had a government security clearance.

Prosecutors argued that the 32-year-old openly held anti-white and xenophobic views, including donning an Adolf Hitler mustache for work and telling people he hoped for a second American civil war. .

It is the seventh riot to be brought to court.

According to his colleagues, Hale-Cusanelli held ‘extremist or extremist views concerning Jewish people, minorities and women’.

Prosecutors added that he was even heard saying: ‘Hitler had to finish the job.’

The accused, arguing in his defense, that he did not know that there is a real building called the Capitol.

He added: ‘I feel like an idiot.’

However, Judge Trevor McFadden – a candidate for President Trump – described this argument as ‘false’.

It was reported that Hale-Cusanelli told a friend he felt ‘happy’ after the violence.

The lawyers said: ‘Hale-Cusanelli, at best, is very tolerant of violence and death.

“What Hale-Cusanelli was doing on January 6 was not activism, it was a prelude to his civil war.”

In sentencing, Judge McFadden said the defendant’s arguments were a ‘clear attempt’ to avoid accountability, and his ‘racist and anti-Semitic motivations’ excluded him from further violence.

During the riots, thousands of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building in Washington DC to ‘confirm’ the results of the 2020 US presidential election.

In that uprising, five people died and 140 security forces were injured.
